Q1. Please share your educational and professional journey with us?
I finished my engineering from Meghnad Saha Institute of Technology, Kolkata. After graduation, I joined TCS for a brief period before pursuing my MBA from Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Raipur.
Q2. Why do you love AI?
We are entering the age of artificial intelligence. AI is no more hype, but has become very much mainstream. Right from checking locations on Google Maps to booking a cab, we are experiencing it all the time. This motivates me to think that can AI also solve real-life problems like disease diagnosis, make processes seamless with facial recognition? Will this be a reality too someday?
The thought of the various possibilities of AI makes me fall in love with technology.
Q3. AI will grab all human jobs. It’s trending in world. What do you think about that?
We need to understand the concept of augmented intelligence and ethics in AI.
AI shall take-over a lot of rudimentary jobs such as replying to messages in a call-Centre. We have seen a lot of companies automate their customer-service portals.
But jobs which require a human-touch can never be replaced. They shall simply be augmented with AI. For example, if AI can help in the diagnosis of a disease, a doctor shall focus more on empathizing with the patients.
Q4. What is the role of Machine and Deep Learning in AI?
With the advent of deep learning, we are now able to create algorithms that can imitate human brains, we call them neural networks. This helps in understanding certain contexts which were not previously possible. This has helped in advancements in automated driver-less cars, advanced diseases diagnosis, etc.
Q5. You had done engineering in Electronics. Why did you go for marketing in further studies?
I am a marketer at heart. Yes, I love marketing because I believe marketing is all about understanding the other person and his/her psychology. One should have a good understanding of business, how business development and sales are done and hence I found pursuing an MBA in marketing as a very exciting option in my career.
Q6. Please share any one project which you think it was your milestone?
Though I have been part of multiple projects. But, I believe one of my college projects was a huge milestone.
This project was about an automated irrigation system to help farmers turn on their pumps from their homes. The project had won at the Texas Instruments Innovation Challenge in 2015.
This project gave me the confidence to pursue entrepreneurship in the future.
Q7. Will AI help humans to save from Disaster like Flood, Storm, and Drought?
With advanced AI and robotics, yes such things shall be possible one day. But as of today, AI can help in monitoring and giving early signs of floods or droughts. It depends upon the management and government on how they take these signals. If they take these signs positively then definitely they can save huge populations from such calamities.
Q8. Do you read books? Which one is your favorite?
I am not an avid book reader. But I love Steve Jobs and I would like to quote one book by Ms Rashmi Bansal – “Stay Hungry! Stay Foolish”, whose title is based on the famous Stanford speech by Steve Jobs.
If you are willing to startup, then this is a must-read.
Q9. Please give any suggestions to student to become an AI Expert?
I am not an expert myself and hence I wouldn’t be able to tell how one can become an expert.
But, if you are in college, then the first thing you should do is to find yourself a decent or good internship in a startup.
I have seen that there is a huge difference between people who actively stay involved in doing projects, internships compared to those who don’t.
I also believe that college is the best place to take the highest risks in life. Hence, if you have a crazy project ideas then don’t wait but simply start. Either you will succeed or you shall learn!
