Interview with Dr. Bharat Bhushan
Dr. Bharat Bhushan
Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science and Engineering,
School of Engineering and Technology, Sharda University, India
Q1. Please share your educational and professional journey with us?
Currently, I am working as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) at School of Engineering and Technology, Sharda University, Greater Noida, India. In the past, I had worked as Network Engineer in HCL Infosystems Ltd., Noida (From August 2012 to May 2013) and as an assistant professor at HMR Institute of Technology and Management, New Delhi (From July 2015 to August 2020).
Coming to my academics, I received my Undergraduate Degree (B-Tech in Computer Science and Engineering) with Distinction in 2012, Postgraduate Degree (M-Tech in Information Security) with Distinction in 2015 and Doctorate Degree (PhD in Computer Science and Engineering) in 2021 from Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra, India.
Q2. At the age of 30, your research contributions are phenomenal for you own two book series from the reputed CRC Press, Taylor and Francis, USA. You are also probably the youngest book series editor in your domain. Tell us something about your research accomplishments?
Talking about my research accomplishments in the last 5 years, I had published 16 SCI Indexed Journals Articles and in total 73 of my authored research papers are indexed in Scopus database. Further, I had also contributed with more than 30 book chapters in various books and has edited 11 books from the most famed publishers like Elsevier, Wiley, IGI Global, and CRC Press. I had served as a resource person in more than 20 National/International Level Faculty Development Program; as a session chair in 15 International Conferences, and as a program chair in 2 reputed International Conferences held in Belgium and Poland.
Also, I have served as Keynote Speaker (resource person) at numerous reputed international conferences held in different countries including India, Morocco, China, Belgium and Bangladesh. Further, I don’t know about the “youngest series editor” but yeah, I do own two series namely Computational Methods for Industrial Applications (CMIA) and Future Generation Information System (FGIS) from CRC Press, Taylor and Francis, USA. I had launched these two series in 2021 itself.
Q3. You have done multiple courses in Computer Networking and were working in HCL, which is a reputed company. Now you are doing an Academic job. So, what is the main reason behind your switching from Industry to Academics?
Yes, I was working with HCL Infosystems after my UG. I also received job offers from Infosys and Oracle after my PG. But because of my clear mind and crystal-clear idea of imparting knowledge and helping students in different ways to achieve their goal and succeed, I joined academics. I am of the opinion that if given the right motivation and guidance, the youth today can bring about a prodigious change that can make our country reach the top of the world.
I have guided over 1000 students to top MNCs in the period of 2015-2021. My students have always expressed their loyalty and faith in my services and I therefore maintained affable relations with them. Also, Scholastic professions offer the smartest possible solution – I can do free research inside my picked strength, and I can move another age of researchers to seek after their inclinations.
Q4. How do you make students excel in their academics and career?
I ensure that students have opportunities to make decisions, make choices, and act autonomously with the resources they use during learning. I counsel students on effective research paper writing techniques and acquaint them in gaining recognition through their publications in reputed International Conferences and Journals.
Recently, In the year 2018, I mentored a team to the Grand Finale of Smart India Hackathon where I steered my team towards Collection of Data related to water resources under Ministry of Water Resources.
Also, in the year 2019, three teams under my supervision bagged positions in the Grand Finale of Smart India Hackathon. With my vision to bind Research, Development, and Innovative learning into a firm loop, I will continue imparting inventive & innovative technological solutions to issues with wide market reach.
Q5. What was your thesis topic in Ph.D.? Please share some brief about it?
I completed my PhD thesis titled “Enhancement of Energy Efficiency and Security in Wireless Sensor Networks” in BIT, Mesra, under the guidance of Dr. G. Sahoo, Visiting professor, IIT Dhanbad (Former Professor and Dean, Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra, Ranchi).
The main contribution of my research work is to enhance the energy efficiency and security in WSNs. In this regard, I had proposed three novel protocols namely (Energy Efficient Secured Ring Routing), ISFC-BLS (Intelligent and Secured Fuzzy Clustering Algorithm Using Balanced Load Sub-Cluster Formation) and FLEECH (Fuzzy Logic-based Energy Efficient Clustering Hierarchy).
The problems related to security and energy efficiency in WSNs is encountered by the proposed protocol which is an enhancement of existing ring routing protocol, a mobile sink-based routing scheme. Further, the problems related to extending the network lifetime and energy efficiency in WSNs is encountered by the proposed FLEECH and ISFC-BLS protocol, a clustering scheme that focuses on optimal CH selection.
Q6. What are your Research Interests?
My Major research interests include Security aspects of Wireless Sensor Networks, Internet of Things and Blockchain Technology.
Q7. What is the one thing that you want to change in yourself and why?
I would like to improve in every facet of my life. Regardless of the amount I might dominate at a specific expertise, I trust I can generally improve, and might want a chance to acquire new encounters that will assist me with turning out to be better at anything I embrace. Along with various research works I’m doing; I’d like to get more experience and use my research expertise to contribute towards the betterment of our society.
Q8. You are currently associated with Sharda University. What do you think you like the most in your current institution?
Let me tell you something about Sharda University. Sharda is not just a university but a community that values cultural diversity, and respect for religion, age, gender, and socio-economic status. This is a truly global university that takes pride in providing multidisciplinary education options to national as well as international students.
Every year we welcome students from more than 85+ countries to our Greater Noida campus. Further, the university continuously upgrades its academic offerings and services to meet the evolving demands of the global workforce and ensure that the industry standards are met.
Sharda University campus hosts a wide variety of exceptional facilities to create an environment where you can shape your future both as a student as well as a faculty. The university frequently organises National & International level Conferences and Seminars on various themes and disciplines to promote industry interaction. At personal level, my experience at Sharda has been a constant evolution of learning, perseverance and seizing opportunities.
Personally, I had learnt a lot of things related to research and academia from Prof. (Dr.) Parma Nand (Dean, School of Engineering and Technology, Sharda University). People here (especially the senior professors) are really supportive and I am utterly grateful for their guidance and support.
