A Brief of his Journey:

Professor H N Mishra, born in a village in Gorakhpur district of Uttar Pradesh (India), has over 35 years of professional experience in teaching and research. He had his professional education from two premier institutions of the country viz. GB Pant University of Agriculture & Technology, Pant Nagar and Indian institute of Technology Kharagpur. Currently, a Professor of Food Technology in the Agricultural & Food Engineering Department Dr. Mishra is former Head/Chairman of the Post Harvest Technology Centre, IIT Kharagpur and past President of the Association of Food Scientists & Technologists (India). Before joining IIT Kharagpur, Dr Mishra served as an Assistant Professor of Food Technology at GB Pant University of Agriculture & Technology, Pant Nagar. Professor Mishra has 583 publications to his credit including 209 research papers in peer reviewed international journals & 306 in conference proceedings; 15 popular articles and 34 book chapters. He has written 4 books, 4 e-books, 7 lecture compendium & laboratory manuals, 4 technology manuals, and has 14 Indian patents to his credit. He has supervised more than 275 student research projects including 10 PDF and 50 Ph D research scholars. Professor Mishra has handled several international and national sponsored research & industrial consultancy projects. Professor Mishra has been on Advisory Committees / Task Force of several Ministries/Departments of the Government of India like MoFPI, DBT, ICAR, CSIR, FSSAI, BIS, AIFPA and Academic Council / Senate of many National Institutes and Universities. He has visited several countries including Taiwan, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Australia, Turkey, UAE, France, Switzerland, Denmark, Germany, Sweden, Norway, Ireland, UK, USA and Canada. Q1. What did attract you towards teaching instead of any corporate job?

Knowledge sharing and service to the society.

Q2. You did Ph.D. in Food Technology. How it is helpful in general life?

Food technology has a great potential in livelihood and employment generation.  Eating right kind and amount of food is very important for physical, mental and emotional wellbeing of people. Food technology professionals are committed to advancing the science & engineering of food for ensuring a safe and abundant food supply.  

Q3. You have been teaching in IIT, Kharagpur from last 30 years. What are the changes have your seen in education method and patterns?

There has been a tremendous advancement in the teaching-learning process in the last 3 decades from the traditional black board teaching to multimedia and now online teaching. Flow of knowledge and availability of resource material for teaching-learning has improved significantly.

Q4. How do you motivate yourself at every morning?

Pray to almighty God.

Q5. Tell us about one of the moments which changed your perspective towards life?

Reading Bhagwat Gita.

Q6. Which one skill do you like most about yourself?

Time management.

Q7. You are a motivation for many students but who is your source of motivation?

My Ph D research supervisor Professor R K Mukherjee.

Q8. Which one thing do you want to change in yourself and why?

I am fine as I am.
