Now I am associated with one of the reputed multinational companies and also pursuing an executive post-graduate diploma in Business Administration.
Q2. Why did you select GIS for your career?
In the 7th standard, I discovered geography is a wonderful subject. My love for the subject became my passion when I decided to pursued geography Hons. I found apart from being a geography teacher, there is also a way to survive in this field. That’s when I did research and instantly decided to join the dept. of the Remote Sensing and GIS. Now I am really happy to say, I didn’t make the wrong decision.
Q3. You have been working in the GIS domain for the last 7 years. How do you see your evolution as a senior GIS specialist?
Starting from Different companies, Different Projects, Different Work Culture, Different Atmosphere, from junior research fellow to Subject matter Expert my career has passed through unexpected ups and downs, but in every situation, only one thing helped me that’s my continuous learning and love towards my Subject. If you want to sustain in your field you have to be ready to learn new technologies, upgrade your skills, and be aware of the current situation. From how to draw a simple vector line to write a simple python or SQL Code you have to be ready for everything.
Q4. You worked in Reliance JIO, TCS. Now you are working at Google. Have you seen any difference between Indian and Foreign companies?
It’s not about the company; it’s all about the people who are working for the company. Every individual has their own rules and ethics. I have also worked for very small domestic companies who are having a few numbers of employees and also for giant companies who have a large set of employees around the globe. The strength of employees and local Govt, influence the rules and ethics of a company. It’s true as an employee you can get better compensation and benefits from a foreign company. But it may vary from case to case. Work stability may be there in an MNC but a small company makes you responsible.
Q5. Do you update yourself in the GIS domain?
Yes, I do. Every day begins with a new opportunity and throws at us new challenges, and as a part of the corporate family, we all have to keep updating ourselves. Not only in the GIS domain. We have to be ready for new responsibilities. Now I am using online platforms to study, learn, and also pursue a diploma in Business Administration to learn how to handle major corporate responsibilities
Q6. Do you read books? If yes then which is your favorite one?
Yes, Sometimes, mostly motivational books. As a human being, you have to take care of your mental health, personal, and social life. It’s difficult to mention one because every book has its flavor. These days I am reading a book, named “Life’s Amazing Secrets – written by Gaur Gopal Das”.
Q7. Where do you want to see yourself after 10 years in career?
I’m just trying to be the best version of myself. After 10 years, Sharing my knowledge with newcomers, finishing a challenging task with wonderful colleagues. Having a delicious lunch in the office canteen.
