Interview with Dr. Somnath Thigale
Dr. Somnath Thigale
Associate Professor at SVERI
Pune, Maharashtra, India
Q1. Please share your inspirational journey with us?
I born & bought up in Middle class family in Pandharpur Dist: Solapur MS.I did my Schooling in Pandharpur only and started my Technical Study from Govt.Polytechnic, Solapur ,Then B.E. Graduation from Shivaji university in Computer Science & Engineering. Then shifted to Pune and started by career as a software Tester in MNC.
Simaltanously completed my Master’s Degree M.E. (CSE) and then shifted to Teaching Profession. Last year successfully completed my Ph.D. in CSE with more than 18 research papers, 03 Books and awaiting for 2 patents on my name.
Q2. What did attract you towards teaching instead of any corporate job?
Satisfaction in life. Teaching is only profession which makes other profession. I loved it more because you come to know your feedback immediately by reading faces of your Students.
Q3. What kind of hurdles did you face in your journey?
Major Problem I faced is English Language. Being from Rural area and did my schooling in State board Marathi Medium I faced many problems, though u have knowledge and not able to express it in proper style it may not be useful.
Q4. What was your Thesis topic in Ph.D? Please share some brief about it?
Topic: “EFFICIENT AND LIGHTWEIGHT SECURED ROUTING PROTOCOL FOR IOT NETWORKS IN DATA COMMUNICATIONS”
Brief: The Internet of Things (IoT) is emerging technology and can be explained as the global and pervasive paradigm that aids and provides mechanism for the monitoring and controlling the physical world by performing the tasks of data collection, its processing and analysis from the IoT sensor devices. There are several concerns for IoT networks design and deployment such as quality of service, security, scalability, and reliability. The security and privacy is most critical problem for IoT networks.
The characteristics like heterogeneity, constrained resources, scalability requirements, uncontrolled environment etc. makes the problems of security and privacy even more challenging. The the high degree of availability needs of IoT networks may compromise the integrity and confidentially of communication data. The security threats mainly performed during the operations of data routing, hence designing the secure routing protocol main research challenge for IoT networks.
The efficient algorithms need to be designed to support the secure data transmission for nodes enabled by the IoT technology. In this paper, to design the lightweight security algorithm the use of Named Data Networking (NDN) which provides the benefits applicable for IoT applications like built-in data provenance assurance, stateful forwarding etc.
Therefore the novel security framework NDN based Cross-layer Attack Resistant Protocol (NCARP) proposed in this research. In NCARP, the cross-layer security technique designed to identify the malicious attackers in network to overcome the problems like routing overhead of cryptography and trust based techniques.
The parameters from the physical layer, Median Access Control (MAC) layer, and routing/network layer used to compute and averages the trust score of each highly mobility nodes while detecting the attackers and establishing the communication links. The simulation results of NCARP is measured and compared in terms of precision, recall, throughput, packets dropped, and overhead rate with state-of-art solutions.
Q5. Which one thing do you want to change in yourself/your domain and why?
I would like to have Open Source (Free of Cost) hardware and Software solutions in IoT for one and all so that more and more application can be developed on it.
Q6. You had both academic and facilitator experience in your long span of career. Which one do you like most and why?
I do live both career options but most one I liked is Teaching one as it relates to expressing your knowledge and experience to transfer to your Students.
Q7. Tell us about one of the moments which changed your perspective towards life?
At initial phase of my Teaching career I started Interacting with Multidisciplinary Students of Engineering and motivated them to do something for society, surprisingly that year I achieved 2 Projects for Agricultural Projects,
One Projected selected in National level Contest and won second Prize.
One group of 4 Girls Participated in National level “Smart India Hackathon”. And more than 09 Students got placed in MNC
This inspired me to stay in Teaching and helped me to do Vertical and Horizontal growth of my Life by doing side by side my Higher educations. Now I am planning to go for my Post Doc too.
Q8. Which one skill do you like most about yourself?
Read, Understand and Remember in own style and express in easiest manner so that everyone will understand it. So express yourself in innovative way.
Q9. How do you excel students in their career and education?
Focusing on Curriculum, Co Curriculum and extra co curriculum.
Don’t read books only implement it in your own way.
